DR. HUGH GLEATON, Treasurer of The Mill Center for the Arts. Graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with a BS in Chemistry and received his MD from the Medical College of Georgia. Served in the US Navy Medical Corps and did an internship at the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Accepted for a Navy residency in ophthalmology and was assigned to the US Naval Hospital in Philadelphia for ophthalmology training. Hugh left the Navy in 1972 and passed the ophthalmology national board exam that same year as a board certified ophthalmologist and was later recommended for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. Hugh has also been past member of the North Carolina Medical Society, the NC Society of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Western NC Ophthalmology Society. Hugh was the first ophthalmologist in Hendersonville to do a lens implant surgery and served as Chief of Surgery at Pardee Hospital as well as Chairman of the Executive and Credential Committees. Hugh retired in 2002 and is greatly interested in the arts. Hugh started playing the piano as a child and has played his entire life. Hugh started playing the violin six years ago with a main emphasis on Scottish fiddle music.
