The Mill Center for the Arts!

Press Release

Brenda Coates steps down as Executive Director

In the Times-News, January 12th edition the Mill Center announced that is continues to receive strong expressions of support for a performing arts facility in Henderson County.  Board President Gene Carr announced that this is the Mill Center's single goal.

In keeping with this goal, the Board of Directors have made the decision to seek a new direction in 2008.  The focus will be entirely on fundraising.  To this end, the Mill Center's offices have been streamlined.  The Board chose not to retain the interim executive director as a paid position.  Brenda Coates, who has served admirably as our interim executive director for four years, chose not to provide further services to the MIll Center.

We will continue to seek advice from the community at all levels in Hendersonville as to what changes would be needed to gain the support needed to resume momentum and success in fundraising, this will include reopening discussion of the specific design of the facility.

The Mill Center has received a favorable report from theater consultant Susan Harper, who was retained to update the business plan.  Projections of income and expenses are comfortably within what is usual and customary for not-for-profit theaters.

Board President Gene Carr states, "In light of the new business plan, which is available for public viewing, the Mill Center Board believes that this project is a viable, necessary component for the future planned growth of downtown Hendersonville.  We look forward to working with community leaders and advocates for the arts as we proceed with the project."
