| A pledge to match dollar for dollar up to $500,000 given by individuals for the express purpose of funding construction of a performing arts center was made this week by a local couple who would like to remain anonymous. Based upon receipt of additional gifts, their contributions will be made monthly into a interest-bearing escrow account held at HomeTrust Bank and earmarked specifically for construction.
This launches the capital campaign for the Mill Center for the Arts.
The donors attended
a small group gathering where members of the Board presented the new focus and direction of the project and sought input regarding what direction to take with the design and cost.
The local couple applauded the new, community-responsive direction and asked what was needed to get the project off the ground. One of our Board Members quoted a local bank and community leader, who said a half-million dollar donation is the "tipping point" that will move the project forward.
"You've got your half-million dollars," the couple said. "Let's make it happen."
The Board continues to hold small group meetings to present the new direction which emphasizes education, economic impact, design changes and broad programming. Community members who wish to attend should contact the Mill Center for the Arts at 828-697-5700.
